What We Believe

Inerrant Scripture

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to humanity. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy.

Psalm 12:6, 119:1-5, 160; Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 1:13, 3:16; 1 Peter 1:20-21

Triune God

God is the Creator, Sustainer and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. God has eternally existed in three divine persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in one divine essence.

Genesis 1:1; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19

God the Father

God the Father reigns with providential care over the universe, his creatures and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purpose of his grace. He is all powerful, all loving, and all wise. God is the Father in Truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

John 6:27; Romans 1:7; Galatians 1:1

God the Son

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is the eternal God, co-equal with the Father. He took on humanity, was born of a virgin and lived a perfect, sinless life. Jesus died a substitutionary death on the cross, arose triumphantly from the dead and ascended to heaven where he reigns at the Father’s right hand where he is the one mediator, fully God, fully man. In him there is reconciliation between God and man. He will return to earth to judge the living and the dead.

Isaiah 7:17; Matthew 1:21-23, 24:29-31; Mark 14:61-62; John 1:1-5; 10:30; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Hebrews 4:15; Revelation 19:11-12

God the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation, providing the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift for service to the church. As Christians we seek to live under his control daily.

John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18

Fallen Humanity

Humans, male and female, are made in the image of God, to be like him in Character. They are the crowning work of God’ creation, tasked with stewarding the rest of creation. Therefore, every person of every race possesses full dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love. However, every human being is marred by “sin,” disobedience to God’s rule and instructions. This separates people from God and causes all of the problems in life, preventing people from obeying God’s word or earning salvation based on their own merit. Only the grace of God can bring man into relationship with Him and enable humanity to fulfill God’s creative purpose.

Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a, 59:1-2; Romans 3:23

Salvation by Grace

Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. In its broadest sense salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.

  1. Regeneration, or the new birth, is a work of God’s grace whereby believers become new creatures in Christ Jesus. It is a change of heart wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are inseparable experiences of grace. Repentance is a genuine turning from sin toward God. Faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and commitment of the entire personality to Him as Lord and Saviour.

  2. Justification is God’s gracious and full acquittal upon principles of His righteousness of all sinners who repent and believe in Christ. Justification brings the believer unto a relationship of peace and favor with God.

  3. Sanctification is the experience, beginning in regeneration, by which the believer is set apart to God’s purposes, and is enabled to progress toward moral and spiritual maturity through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him. Growth in grace should continue throughout the regenerate person’s life.

  4. Glorification is the culmination of salvation and is the final blessed and abiding state of the redeemed.

John 1:12, 14:6; Romans 5:8, 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26
